Job Summary:
The In-Class Support Paraprofessional works directly within general education classrooms to assist students with Learning Plans to ensure they are accessing the curriculum alongside their peers. This role supports the implementation of accommodations, fosters student independence, and collaborates with both special and general education teachers to ensure student success in an inclusive setting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide in-class academic support to students while promoting participation and engagement in the general education curriculum.
  • In-class support includes (but not limited to):
    • Taking notes
    • Comprehension of material lectured by general studies teacher
    • Small group instruction (for re-teach purposes and direct instruction from staff)
    • Provide effective instructional strategies
    • Data collection at least 2x per week
  • Reinforce instructional content as directed by the teacher and assist in implementing accommodations outlined in the student’s Learning Plan.
  • Foster student independence by gradually reducing support as appropriate.
  • Assist the general education teacher in managing behavior using positive behavior supports and strategies developed by the student’s educational team (Division Director, Director of Student Support, Counselor, Dean, Teacher (if possible).
  • Take notes, collect data, and provide input on student progress and needs to the case manager and instructional team.
  • Collaborate regularly with general and special education teachers to ensure alignment and consistency in instructional practices.
  • Encourage and support inclusive practices and peer relationships among all students.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
  • Report data to the Director of Student Services and advise on student progress.
  • May occasionally require assisting students in navigating emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. (Associate’s Degree or higher is a plus, but not required.)
  • 3-5 Years of experience working with school-aged students, especially those with learning differences, preferred.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to support students discreetly and respectfully within the classroom.
  • Flexibility, patience, and a willingness to learn and grow within a team setting.
